Inside Illulian’s Forme Erose: A Rug Collection Inspired by the Power of Nature

In a meeting of art, design, and craftsmanship, Illulian has unveiled Forme Erose, a new rug collection created in collaboration with AMDL Circle, the visionary studio founded by architect and designer Michele De Lucchi. The collection explores the dialogue between nature and time, transforming organic forms and geological memory into handwoven works of art.

At its core, Forme Erose celebrates the power of nature’s slow transformation. Inspired by De Lucchi’s Sassi e Montagne drawings and sculptures, the collection’s two designs, Geo I and Geo II, reinterpret sculptural landscapes into two-dimensional textile form. The result is a series of rugs that feel alive, their abstract lines and textures echoing the marks left by wind, water, and time itself.

“The essence of this collection is the passage of time,” says De Lucchi. “It’s about how natural elements shape the world around us — gradually, persistently, and beautifully.” Each piece reads like a topographic poem, where marks become gestures and design becomes storytelling.

Illulian’s exceptional artisanship brings these ideas to life with remarkable depth. Each rug is knotted and carded by hand using Himalayan wool, pure silk, and natural vegetable dyes. Available in two levels of craftsmanship, Platinum 120, with 180,000 knots per square metre, and Gold 100, with 152,000 knots per square metre, the rugs embody precision and texture in equal measure. Subtle tonal variations and sculpted details give each design a tactile richness that transforms any space into something contemplative and timeless.

Every Forme Erose rug is also fully customizable through Illulian’s bespoke service, allowing clients to select their preferred colours, sizes, and finishes. Whether placed in a contemporary living room, a boutique hotel, or a gallery setting, these pieces bring an artful serenity to their surroundings, proof that design, like nature, is best when it evolves with intention and emotion.

Founded in 1959 and still family-led today by Shahnaz Illulian and her sons Davis and Bendis Ronchetti, Illulian remains a global benchmark in luxury rugs and textile artistry. From its Milan flagship on Via Manzoni, the brand continues to unite traditional techniques with avant-garde design, creating rugs that are not merely décor, but heirlooms of craftsmanship and culture.
