How to Host a Girl’s Night In (And Make a Difference)

By Julia Green from Greenhouse Interiors.

Hosting your own Girl’s Night In for Cancer Council is an honour and a privilege and ALWAYS a good idea. After all, we all need to band together when it comes to helping fight women’s cancers, and what better way to do it than with your nearest and dearest, right?

This year I decided to dust off my projector and host a good old fashioned movie night for my girl gang, to help raise funds and have some serious fun!

In preparation, I created some gorgeous handwritten invites together and used good old snail mail to send them! Don’t be afraid to make all of the extra effort when it comes to invitations, as the recipient will feel extra special from the get go! Parchment paper with a handwritten love letter will always do the trick. On this occasion, I also sent a beautiful pair of silk pajamas with hand painted boobs on them as a fun gift.

When it comes to styling the space for your own party- consider some of the basic styling 101 rules. Playing with colour is an immediate way to inject personality to your space, and this can be done with art/soft furnishings and even blooms. I decorated our loft space at work with an abundance of colour, and the addition of fresh blooms added an extra layer of ‘happy’ to the room. Flowers are often best when styled as if hand-picked to give them that relaxed lived in feel. Too much structure may feel ‘forced’ or contrived.

Given I landed on a movie night, I wanted to ensure absolute comfort, so I adorned the couch with a mix of colorful soft furnishings that added texture and a relaxed feel. Soft mohair blankets were included to make sure each guest felt cosy and comfy! Surrounded by riotous colour and sumptuous texture was a sure-fire way to ensure all guests felt welcomed!

Lighting is a key consideration when hosting a party. I wanted to have the right ambience, so soft mood lighting was selected to create a cosy feel to the space. Sound was also carefully considered, with a fab fun playlist upon arrival to greet my friends.

All in all, a fabulous time was enjoyed by all, but it was all of the extra attention to detail, such as the handmade ceramic boob mugs full of warm and delicious hot chocolate, that made each guest feel so special.

The icing on the cake was that rather than spending money out on the town, we collectively pooled just under $1000 to put towards the Cancer Council’s fundraising effort, and that felt the best of all.

Gather your girl gang, throw a fab party, and make a difference – it’s an amazing feeling! Register to host your own Girls’ Night In, in support of Cancer Council Victoria.
