Budget-Friendly Colour Trends to Transform Your Small Space

The Dulux Emerge palette has the power to completely transform a space into a sunny sanctuary and evoke a care-free attitude with its vibrant and uplifting hues.

Opting for warm neutrals, such as Dulux Hog Bristle Quarter® and Dulux Clay Bake or soft pastels, like Dulux Lemon Blast or Dulux Piglet on the walls is a great way to introduce colour to a small room and create an inviting feel.

Incorporating bright colours is particularly key when working within smaller spaces, as it helps to add a level of depth and interest. While some people may be cautious about using colour in the fear it’ll make their space appear smaller, light greens and blues, such as Dulux Puhoi Half, or Dulux Justice can help make a room feel larger than it is.

If you’re drawn to the warm, mid-tone shades within the palette, including Dulux Ripe Rhubarb – a beautiful, deep red – or Dulux Cornstalk – a muted, earthy green, I’d recommend painting all four walls, which when complemented by a light, neutral colour on the ceiling can help the space feel taller and lifted. Bedrooms are great for incorporating bursts of fun colours and painting all four walls can help evoke a luxurious and moody feeling in the space.

Colour is such a versatile design tool and can empower a space, or provoke a sense of tranquillity in your home. So if you’re looking to transform your own space at home, a fresh coat of paint is a simple and inexpensive way to add colour and personality to your bedroom, while creating a space where you feel most comfortable and at ease.

There are a few smaller adaptations you can take if you want to give your space a new lease on life. Small paint projects such as doors, hallways and highlighting other architectural features including trims and architraves creates a fun weekend project. Alternatively, painting furniture, a fresh set of brightly coloured linen sheets, or a cosy throw rug, may be just what your space needs to appear brighter.

Lauren Treloar, Dulux Colour Manager’s top tip for incorporating the Emerge palette within your own home:

  • Don’t forget to consider what furniture pieces and decorative items you might need to introduce or change in that bedroom to achieve the desired look.
  • In addition to mixing and matching colours from the palette, we recommend playing with patterns and shapes.
  • Look for quirky vessels, source still life artworks that feature florals, fruit or summer delicacies, coloured lighting and other textures that link to summer like wicker or rattan.
