The enduring influence of Nancy Meyers continues to shape trends across social media, giving rise to distinct subcategories in both design and fashion. Examples include the Coastal Grandma aesthetic and, more recently, the Coastal Auntie aesthetic.
But the Nancy Meyers aesthetic goes beyond the appearance of your home; it’s about the emotions it evokes. Think of the iconic kitchens in Nancy Meyers’ movies—they exude warmth, cosiness, and exudes classic elegance. House of Rohl stylist, Fiona Gould, advises “Think soft, neutral tones and natural materials like wood and stone. These elements ground the space and make it feel welcoming. Don’t forget the details—vintage hardware, open shelving, and cozy seating areas can make a huge difference in creating that warm, inviting atmosphere.”

Here are Fiona’s Top 5 Design Tips when creating a Nancy Meyers aesthetic:
1. Choose a mostly white on white colour palette but remember to make it layered. Think painted wood, white tiles, painted cabinetry and panelling, white marble – it’s the mix of materials that keep this look feeling welcoming.
2. Embrace classic details inspired by luxury country cottages like traditional shaped tapware, French windows, glass front kitchen cabinets, an oversized farmhouse sink such as the Shaws Butler Sink, a freestanding oven.

3. Source vintage finds and reclaimed timber to give the space an authentic and unique homely feel.
4. Less is not best with this trend, we want things on display across our island, bench tops and shelves. Think stacked chopping boards, ceramic canister with cooking utensils, oversized fruit bowl, open shelves with dinnerware and glassware.

5. Herbs or picked flowers/foliage on display is a must to make the space feel welcoming and homely.
